He’s Reese’s Biggest Advocate—and Hershey’s Biggest Headache
Brad Reese, grandson of the inventor of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, has publicly criticized The Hershey Co. for allegedly compromising the quality of Reese's products by using cheaper ingredients. Reese specifically pointed to the replacement of milk chocolate with "chocolate candy" and peanut butter with "peanut crème" in several products, including Reese's Mini Hearts, Take5, and Fast Break bars. He also noted differences in European versions of the candy. Hershey acknowledged some recipe adjustments, citing consumer demand for innovation and high cocoa prices, but maintained that the core Reese's Peanut Butter Cup recipe remains unchanged and that changes are tested to preserve the brand's essence. Reese, however, believes these changes have negatively impacted taste and quality, urging Hershey to adhere to its founder's principle of "Give them quality."
