Walmart has agreed to a $100 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to resolve allegations of deceiving delivery drivers about their potential earnings.
The FTC, joined by 11 states, claimed that Walmart's crowdsourced delivery program, Spark, showed drivers inflated base pay and tip amounts, leading drivers to lose tens of millions of dollars. The commission also alleged that Walmart misled customers by falsely stating that all tips would go to drivers.
As part of the settlement, Walmart is required to implement an earnings verification program to ensure drivers receive promised compensation. Walmart stated that it values its drivers and has already issued payments to affected individuals, while continuously improving its procedures for fairness and transparency.
