Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho" and leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was killed in a military operation in western Mexico.
The operation resulted in violent clashes, with six other people killed and several arrested, along with three wounded Mexican military personnel. Oseguera Cervantes was a high-priority target for U.S. law enforcement, wanted for alleged large-scale trafficking of fentanyl and other drugs into the U.S., with a $15 million reward offered for information leading to his arrest.
The CJNG is known for its extensive involvement in drug manufacturing, trafficking, and distribution, as well as money laundering, and has been responsible for significant violence, including attempted assassinations and the downing of a military helicopter. His son, Rubén Oseguera, also known as "El Menchito," was recently sentenced to life in prison in the U.S. for drug and weapons charges.
